Scopas Tang
The Scopas Tang (Zebrasoma scopas), also called the Brown Tang, is a hardy and popular surgeonfish from the Indo-Pacific. It typically grows to about 8 inches and features a brown to yellow body with a lighter face, sometimes showing subtle patterning that becomes more distinct with age. Known for its algae-grazing habits, it plays a useful role in controlling nuisance algae in reef tanks. Scopas Tangs are generally semi-aggressive—especially toward other tangs of similar shape—but can coexist well with a variety of tankmates in systems of at least 75–100 gallons. With a diet rich in marine algae, nori, and plant-based foods, they are relatively easy to care for and make a great choice for hobbyists looking for a hardy, functional, and active reef fish.
