Neon Velvet Damsel
The Neon Velvet Damsel (Neoglyphidodon oxyodon) is a hardy and vibrantly colored saltwater fish native to the Indo-Pacific. Juveniles are especially eye-catching, with a deep blue body accented by bright neon-blue horizontal stripes and a yellow-orange tail. As they mature, their colors darken, often shifting to a more subdued black or brown with less pronounced striping. Reaching around 5–6 inches in size, they are one of the larger damsels and need an aquarium of at least 55 gallons. Like most damselfish, they are territorial and can become aggressive—especially as adults—so they do best with other semi-aggressive or larger tankmates. Extremely hardy and adaptable, they thrive on a varied diet of flakes, pellets, frozen foods, and algae, making them a durable and striking addition for aquarists prepared to manage their feisty nature.
