Chocolate Tang Juvenile
The Chocolate Tang (Acanthurus pyroferus), also known as the Mimic Tang, is a unique saltwater fish that changes appearance as it matures. Juveniles are brightly colored and often mimic dwarf angelfish species for protection, while adults develop a more subdued brownish-chocolate body with orange highlights near the gill area and a contrasting tail. Reaching about 8–10 inches in length, they require a spacious aquarium (125+ gallons) with plenty of swimming room and live rock for grazing. Like other tangs, they are primarily herbivores and should be offered a diet rich in marine algae, seaweed sheets, and vegetable-based foods to maintain health and vibrant coloration. Generally peaceful with most tankmates, they may show aggression toward other tangs, especially those of similar shape or diet.
