Red Trachy Coral
Trachy Coral (Trachyphyllia geoffroyi), also known as an Open Brain Coral, is a large-polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its vibrant coloration and fleshy, inflated appearance. It comes in brilliant shades of red, green, blue, and rainbow variations that glow intensely under actinic lighting. Trachys thrive in low to moderate lighting and gentle to moderate flow, allowing their tissue to expand fully without being damaged. They prefer placement on the sandbed or a flat, stable surface away from sharp rock edges to prevent tearing. Though photosynthetic, Trachys benefit from target feeding with small meaty foods like mysis, brine, or coral pellets once or twice a week, which encourages growth and color intensity. With stable water parameters and low aggression from neighbors, Trachy corals are hardy, peaceful, and make a beautiful centerpiece in any LPS-dominant reef.
